Hirer’s Checklist
To help keep everyone safe, please read and follow these checklists during your hire. The hall is managed by unpaid volunteers, so we rely on hirers to play their part.

Hirer's Health & Safety Checklist
Before your event
- Nominate a responsible person to oversee health & safety during your hire
- Ensure you understand and do not exceed the maximum capacity (120 people)
- Familiarise yourself with the location of the fire exits, fire extinguishers and first aid kit
- Carry out a visual safety check of the hall on arrival (floors, cables, furniture, spillages)
During your event
- Keep all exits and escape routes clear at all times
- Arrange tables, chairs and equipment safely and keep walkways clear
- Clear up spillages immediately to prevent slips
- Ensure children are supervised at all times
- Use only electrical equipment that is safe and in good condition
- Do not overload sockets or use damaged extension leads
Kitchen use
- Take care when using electrical appliances and hot water
- Do not leave cooking or heating appliances unattended
- Keep flammable items away from heat sources
- Leave the kitchen clean and tidy after use
Accidents and incidents
- Record and report any accidents, near misses or safety concerns to the hall management
- Report any damage to the building or equipment as soon as possible
After your event
- Leave the hall, kitchen and toilets clean and tidy
- Return tables and re-stack chairs (no more than 5 high)
- Switch off lights, all heaters, water heaters and kitchen appliances
- Ensure windows and doors are secured and main door locked
Hirer's Fire Safety Checklist
Before your event
- Familiarise yourself with the fire evacuation procedure
- Identify the fire assembly point
- Ensure you know how to raise the fire alarm by calling 999 or 101
- Ensure any decorations or displays are fire-resistant
During your event
- Keep fire exits unlocked and unobstructed at all times
- Do not obstruct fire extinguishers
- Do not use candles, naked flames or smoke machines unless agreed in advance
- Do not interfere with fire safety equipment
In the event of a fire
- Stop all activities immediately
- Evacuate the building calmly using the nearest safe exit
- Do not stop to collect personal belongings
- Assist others where safe to do so
- Proceed to the fire assembly point at the rear of the car park
- Do not re-enter the hall until it is confirmed safe
After the event
- Report any fire safety concern to the hall management
